A SYSTEM OF ALLEYWAYS IN NORTHWEST DC HOST PERFECT OUTBULDINGS FROM THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY – AND THE MARTIN SWIFT SPACE.

Martin Swift is a friend of MUTINY and we've long admired his work. Known for his large-scale oil paintings and beautiful ink sketches, his collection of work is seen as throught-provoking, especially with the release of THE PARADOX OF MASCULINITY. The spance of canvases incorporated large male nudes humorously paired with athletic equipment and prowess ... mocking gender bias in the media while still being incredibly beautiful.

SWIFT'S BRUSHSTROKES CAN BE AS GREGARIOUS AS THE SCALE OF HIS WORK – A CONTRAST TO HIS INK AND PEN WORK THAT FINDS A RATHER DELICATE, FINE LINED INTENSITY.

Swift is a bit of a throw-back ... the old, simple pleasures of life give him a kick and inform his lifestyle as a true Washingtonian.

OBSERVANCES FROM MUTINY ARE AS FOLLOWS :

HE HEATS HIS COFFEE (COWBOY STYLE) ON A WOOD FIRE STOVE IN HIS STUDIO.

HE SPENDS MOST OF HIS DOWN TIME / THOUGHT TIME ON THE C+O CANAL LOCK SYSTEM … FISHING. TROUT. SWIFT THROWS BACK ONE CONTINUOUS CATCH ON ACCOUNT OF IT BEING SO OLD – IT’S EARNED PRIVILEGES.

HIS DESK IS STACKED WITH REPAIR AND SCIENCE PERIODICALS FROM THE 40S AND 50S --- THE SMALL-PRINTED POPULAR MECHANICS NEVER LOOKED SO COOL. REMINDS US OF HIS MOON BASE SERIES.

HE’S CURRENTLY LISTENING TO BILL EVANS – IMPRESSIONISTIC JAZZ - AND READING CYBER PUNK NOVELS (THINK NEIL STEVENSON).
HE’S GOT MORE WOOD-WORKING TOOLS THAN A MASTER CARPENTER – BUILDING ALL CANVASES HIMSELF WITH ENOUGH SKILLS TO FABRICATE BASICALLY ANYTHING.

HE LIKES A GOOD ROADTRIP – ICELAND + OTHER PARTS IN THE COLD NORTH EARLIER THIS YEAR WITH HIS GAL FRIDAY.

HE IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON A BADASS SERIES OF JAPANESE SAMURAI DRAWINGS --- THE BUSHIDO PROJECT.

KNOWING HIM, HIS NAME SHOULD BE TOM SWIFT, BOY ADVENTURER.
