FROM CITY TO COUNTRYSIDE: UPSTATE IN JULY

Posted by 1 on

IF YOU'VE NEVER BEEN UPSTATE, DON'T REST ON YOUR LAURELS. It's a beautiful, mountainous, lake & quarry filled escape from the life-urban. Upstate refers to just about anything north of Manhattan - hit the Palisades, the Taconic, or Saw Mill Parkways and within a minute's distance you FIND YOURSELF TRACKING the Hudson or heavily tree-lined roadways. Growing up at West Point, we've never been able to shake the area. Farms, rolling hills, drive-in movies, galleries, family run inns, small farm to table feats - you gain time when you return. We feel that there's a great deal of BEAUTIFUL growth - small businesses that are on the front of the well made and USA made.

We find a great deal of inspiration from the quiet, genuine life there. It's hard to pick which places are our favorite (we've been spending a lot of time in Columbia & Duchess Counties) but we continue to explore and discover the things that drive us ... share yours with us.

We included city scenes as well - it's interesting to see how UPSTATE is influencing / informing what we are gravitating towards: green spaces, organic foods, original aesthetics. WE PREFER THE TRAIN - many of the towns and smaller hamlets are accessible by way of Amtrak. They feature the EMPIRE SERVICE, the ADIRONDAK, MAPLE LEAF & ETHAN ALLAN --- it's practicality with a view. No need to scrap for a car – you can easily rent one outside many stations for some road-tripping vibes.

MAKE FAST FRIENDS WITH LOCAL SHOP OWNERS OR INN KEEPERS - CHANCES ARE THEY'RE IN 'THE KNOW' AND WILL STEER YOU TOWARD THE BEST THE TOWN HAS TO OFFER.

Local farms are another place to linger – some offer their own restaurants, exceptional and thoughtful food. Slowly but surely great inns are on the rise & there's always 'GLAMPING' (a word too ridiculous to say – but who doesn't love a yurt or a cottage on the lake?).

GO NORTH !!!
